Photo pass

Builds in time for fog movement, tower details, skyline compression, and a backup composition.

  1. 01Check webcams and fog before leaving, then expect change.
  2. 02Start wide from Battery Spencer or Golden Gate View Point.
  3. 03Wait through one fog cycle if the bridge is partly hidden.
  4. 04Switch to Hawk Hill, Fort Point, or Presidio if visibility collapses.

Cleanest practical window for lower parking pressure and calmer bridge photos.

Treat parking as the bottleneck: arrive early, avoid leaving valuables in the car, and be ready to continue to Hawk Hill or the Presidio if the small pullouts are full.

For the iconic elevated bridge frame, aim for Battery Spencer / Golden Gate View Point on the Marin side; for cypress-framed towers, use Golden Gate Overlook in the Presidio.

Fog is not a failure. Thin fog can make the bridge more cinematic, but heavy marine layer can erase the span completely.

Bring a wind layer even on sunny days. The headlands can feel much colder than downtown San Francisco.
