Toll questions
How much is the Golden Gate Bridge toll?
From July 1, 2026, a car (2 axles) pays $10.25 with FasTrak, $10.50 with a License Plate Account or One-Time Payment, and $11.25 if you wait for a Toll Invoice. Carpools (3+ people, FasTrak, weekday peak hours) pay $8.25.
Is the Golden Gate Bridge toll both ways?
No. It is charged southbound only, into San Francisco. Northbound to Marin is free, so a round trip from the city to Battery Spencer pays once.
Can I pay the Golden Gate Bridge toll in cash?
Not at the bridge; tolls are all electronic. Use FasTrak, a License Plate Account, a One-Time Payment (up to 30 days before or 48 hours after crossing), or pay the invoice that comes by mail.
What happens if I don't pay the Golden Gate Bridge toll?
A Toll Invoice is mailed to the registered owner (about a week later for California plates) and is due within 21 days. Unpaid, it becomes a Toll Violation with a $25.00 penalty per crossing.
How do I pay the Golden Gate Bridge toll in a rental car?
Most rental companies opt you into their toll program when you cross and add a daily fee on top of the toll. To avoid it, take the plate number, make your own One-Time Payment and opt out as your agency says. The calculator above compares the two.
